What culture must be recognised in the politics of multiculturalism?
2009
Liberalism offers a very broad range of responses and theoretical constructions when it comes to addressing the issue of the cultural diversity of societies and their cultural management. Compare the responses of Charles Taylor, Clifford Geertz and Michael lgnatieff, to name three important thinkers. They all claim to defend liberalism, but their viewpoints are very different. I have chosen these three because they come from three different disciplinary fields: philosophy, empirical anthropology and political theory. My purpose is to show that their differences do not derive only from their different political sensibilities, from the position they adopt within the broad spectrum of liberalis…
Stavo per scivolare, ho pensato a Wittgenstein!. Etnopragmatica di un concetto
2016
Ho dunque mes…

A test of the relationship between argumentativeness, individualism/collectivism, and conflict style preference in the United States and Finland
2016
This study explored relationships between argumentativeness and collectivism/individualism in Finland and the United States. Data were gathered in the United States (n = 412) and Finland (n = 261). The analysis suggested: (a) collectivism was negatively correlated with argumentativeness, (b) individualism was positively correlated with argumentativeness, and (c) Finnish participants reported lower levels of argumentativeness than Americans. Cultural differences between the United States and Finland are discussed as reasons for the differences between the nations on argumentativeness. peerReviewed

Just a foreword? Malinowski, Geertz and the anthropologist as native
2006
Read through semiotic analysis, the narrative intrigue of (the evenemential and cognitive dimension of) the anthropologist’s work reveals the epistemological configuration encasing some central and interrelated questions in anthropology: the communication-interaction between anthropologists and other inter-actants, their invention-application of some metalanguages and the subsequent intercultural translations of concepts and processes. To explore this configuration, I compare a foreword written by Malinowski and another one written by Geertz. In these forewords, they resort to refined stories to frame complex argumentations. In Malinowski’s foreword, two superposing stories are told: (1) a …
